Last week, I lost my wallet. I did the whole “retracing my steps” thing – digging through car seats, flipping over clutter at home, hoping it was just playing hide and seek. But eventually, the truth set in: I must have dropped it the moment I stepped out of the car. Meaning, it’s probably in someone’s hands now.

It’s a heavy feeling, isn’t it? That instant “oops” that costs you your ATM cards, a small currency collection I’d been keeping, and every ID I own. All gone because of a split-second of carelessness.

But I decided to stay hopeful. I’m still alive; I’ll find a way.

I chose to believe in the “Unicorn Thought” – the idea that i don’t have anything to worry, it’s all taken cared of.

Every time the panic started to flare up, I’d take a deep breath and whisper a “thank you” to the universe. No evidence, no certainty, just a choice to believe it was already handled. Whether I got it back or not, I needed to believe I’d be okay. So, I let it go.

A few days later, the “What If” became a reality. Someone had come by the house while I was out on errands, leaving a note about my wallet and a phone number.

I texted her, and the story got even better. She wasn’t even the one who found it! She had seen some kids rummaging through a wallet near her market stall in Bicutan and just… stepped in. She saw the IDs, realized how much of a mess my life would be without them, and decided she was going to be the one to fix it.

I went to her stall the next day. She handed it to me—every single card intact—and wouldn’t take a thing in return. Her name is Marizza. She was heaven-sent, a literal queen in her own right.

People might call it wishful thinking or just a lucky coincidence. But I like to think it’s proof that we have a bit of power to pull off incredible outcomes just by shifting what’s inside us.

I mean, what if, right? Yes, this sounds like i might have just gotten lucky, but hey, it happened again in Unicorn Thoughts and The Gratitude Theory (Part 2) and Unicorn Thoughts and The Gratitude Theory (part 3 : Malcolm’s wallet)

I guess enough times to see that unicorn thoughts don’t play around.
